50 years of creativity, innovation and technology – that's worth celebrating!

For its anniversary, the Festival teamed up with YouTube to organise an original competition...The participants had to make an animated film, of no more than 5 minutes, and centre on the key words of "50", "Festival" and "Annecy"!

films were submitted to the YouTube competition.

The films were first of all whittled down to the best 10 by 21,418 online voters.

Before a jury comprising David Silverman (United States), Joanna Quinn (Great Britain) and Arthur de Pins (France) then selected the three winners:

  • 1st: POP, Bernard Derriman (Australia)
  • 2nd: Food About You, Alexandre Dubosc (France)
  • 3e : Scientist, waltergmp

The competition winner was treated to a week at the Annecy Festival.

For its anniversary, the Festival is teaming up with YouTube to organise an original competition...


Open to all, it gives budding creators, students or industry professionals the opportunity to be a part of a world-renowned Festival.


Feel like being creative, making an animated film or adpating an exisitng production?

The film must be of a maximum running time of 5 minutes, be centred on the theme of celebrations and anniversary and integrate the keywords: “50”, “Festival” and “Annecy”.

From 2nd May, users will vote for the 10 best shorts (voting ends at midnight on 23rd May). A jury of professionals will then choose the winner from the 10 finalists (making their decision between 24th and 27th May).

David Silverman (USA) read his biography

David Silverman's biography

David Silverman was born in the USA in 1957. After receiving his MFA in Animation from UCLA, he became a freelance illustrator, before becoming head of animation, director and producer for a TV series. He also works on the screenplays and directing of features for studios including DreamWorks, Pixar and Blue Sky.

David Silverman was a member of the graduation film jury at Annecy 2008.

Joanna Quinn (UK) read her biography

 

Joanna Quinn's biography

Joanna Quinn was born in England in 1962. She discovered animation while studying Graphic Design and decided to use the medium for her pencil drawings. In 1985, she cofounded Beryl Productions with writer and producer Les Mills and since then has divided her time between making and producing series and shorts and TV commercials.

She received the second Special Jury, Mellow-Manor and Ufoleis awards for "Girls Night Out" at Annecy 1987. Famous Fred was rewarded with the TV film Grand Prix in 1997 and she won the Special Jury, Audience and Fipresci awards for Dreams and Desires – Family Ties in 2006. She was a member of the Annecy jury in 2007.

Arthur De Pins (France) read his biography

 

Arthur De Pins's biography

Arthur De Pins was born in France in 1977. After studies at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, he made his first animated film in 2000. He is a graphic designer, strip cartoonist and illustrator and creates designs for TV series, commercials and works with different magazines.

Arthur de Pins won the graduation film award in 2001 for Géraldine, followed by the Audience award for The Crab Revolution in 2004.

 

The prizewinner will be treated to a week at Annecy 2010, taking place between 7th and 12th June, and the winning film will be screened during the event.
