1,064 exhibitors on 5,300 m2. Find out about this year's trends with the Head of Mifa, Mickaël Marin.
Last year, in 2012, you told us about the Territory Focus, the new meeting format spotlighting particular regions or countries to facilitate international co-productions through a better understanding of the different territories.
We are renewing this format as it was effective and worked very well last year. This year, we are focusing on Poland, Russia, South Africa, Japan and the United Kingdom.
There are some other meeting formats too this year?
Indeed, firstly, the Share With sessions offer producers a privileged access to head buyers of TV programmes and distributors of short and feature films, with twenty sessions scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday.
Secondly, the Mifa Talks provide a forum for reflection with 3 meetings about 3 formats – TV, features and short films. In order to promote a diversity of perspectives, they were designed with carefully chosen partners. For TV shows, we have invited a Consultant at Media Valley and former Head of the Youth Unit at M6, Natalie Altmann, and for feature films, we are relying on our regular partner, Europa Distribution.
Finally, to design the meeting focusing on short films, we collaborated with the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market.
You already mentioned in 2012 about wanting to highlight short film production and develop the participation of buyers and programmers in this concept...
This is why we have put it on the programme of the Mifa Talks sessions and invited heads of short film acquisitions to the Share With sessions. And for the first time, there will be a Unifrance stand at the Market with Christine Gendre, Head of Short Films at Unifrance, and Alexandre Charlet, Producer and President of the Commission court métrage.
In 2014, we want to take the concept even further.
Tell us about the exhibitors...
Once again this year, we will be welcoming new delegations, including a strong South American presence with Chile, Colombia, Brazil. There will be an “umbrella” area with a South African delegation, just like at the Creative Focus with its Heading South Focus.
Have a great Mifa 2013!
An appointment for Friday 14th June to better understand short film diffusion and outline current practices and existing distribution opportunities in a meeting co-organised by the Mifa and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market.
The Mifa and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market are joining forces and skills for this meeting designed for industry professionals working in production, distribution and acquisitions. This is the opportunity to examine relevant questions concerning the short film market and create an up-to-date, accurate picture of the industry.
The Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market
Taking place in 2014, the 29th Clermont-Ferrand market will bring together 3,000 industry professionals from all around the world, including directors, producers, broadcasters, distributors, technicians, all kinds of operators, festival programmers, press professionals and training organisations. The event gives an opportunity for professionals to conclude commercial exchanges – a vital part of their work. In addition, the market explores new possibilities for cinema with initiatives such as implementing one of the first digital video libraries.
The market will take place at the same time as the 35th International Short Film Festival. This popular event, which attracted 150,000 spectators in 2013, gives professionals the opportunity to see how a film is received by the public.
Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team create an all-new comedy adventure featuring the return of (former?) super-villain Gru (Steve Carell), his adorable girls, the unpredictably hilarious Minions... and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.

Another Day of Life is an animation and documentary hybrid project as well as a genre film with an artistic vision.
We will present the challenges connected at the same time with the animation style, research and the creative work on both story and script.
Salle Pierre Lamy
The animation feature has to deal with the difficult equation of proposing original visual and narrative universes but without either the economic power of the American studios or the cheap labour force of emerging territories.
The feature films presented offer different answers to this challenge at an editorial, organisational and technical level, as well as many examples to think about.
