Frédéric Back and Nag Ansorge, two great names from the world of animation, passed away at the end of 2013.

The internationally renowned animated film director, Frédéric Back, passed away on December 24th. His work was acclaimed and rewarded all over the world including 2 Oscars, one for Crac in 1982 and the other for The Man Who Planted Trees in 1988.

Nag Ansorge left us on December 26th. This film maker had developed a special animation technique using black quartz sand with his wife Gisèle. Their resulting films toured the international festival circuit and received numerous prizes. Many of these films were in competition in Annecy.

The Festival will pay tribute to them this year in The Big Sleep programme of films made by directors who have left us during the year.
