The quintessence of animation in Annecy!

Annecy 2015

With more than 8,250 badgeholders (a 16% rise compared to 2014), 83 countries represented, around 500 films screened, a Market which broke its own records (2,680 badgeholders, a 10% rise), the 2015 Event was bigger than ever, with animation from France and around the world, in the place of honour.

Let's look back over this "animated" week.

  • The screening of the feature film Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet at the opening ceremony beautifully kicked off the 2015 Event.
  • Some exclusive first footage of Zootopia and The Good Dinosaur from Disney•Pixar has been revealed.
  • Yellow day in Annecy on Thursday! The Minions landed on the Pâquier, attracting a large number of fans there and then at Bonlieu Grande salle!
  • The Thief and the Cobbler: the story of the "greatest animated feature of all time" was told in Annecy in presence of Richard Williams, "The Animators' Animator".
  • The Honorary Cristal was awarded to Florence Miailhe.
  • The new prize Mifa & Variety's Animation Personality of the year, created in order to award a person who has contributed to the animation industry's evolution, was given to Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination Entertainment.
  • Keynote speeches from Genndy Tartakovsky, Chris Meledandri and one about The Future of Animation: Combining Viewpoints, with Françoise Guyonnet, Jinko Gotoh and Lisa Henson, gave the audience the chance to hear from these creators in person and to ask them questions.
  • Press conferences with France Télévisions (leading partner in animation), Lagardère Active, Tfou, CANAL+ FAMILY (Festival official partner), Ankama and Arte were a huge success.
  • During a Mifa workshop, the first results from the major study Mapping of the Animation Industry in Europe were revealed (Download PDF file: 10 Mo).
  • Women in Animation presented its preliminary research on the state of women working in and studying animation.
  • The traditional recruitment sessions have been held with world-famous animation studios such as Disney Channel, Mac Guff and Ubisoft.
  • CANAL+ announced in Annecy that it would triple its investments in youth programmes.
  • Lagardère Active has confirmed its commitments to animation and its leadership in audience.
  • Amazon Studios positioned itself as the future major player in the animation industry, opened to creators from all around the world.
  • The creation of the European Animation Pride Awards was announced.
