In the apocalyptic world of a post-atomic Tokyo, Kaneda and his motorcycle gang live out their nights in territorial wars with rival gangs. Kaneda's friend Tetsuo is victim to a strange accident during one of these violent encounters. He is taken away by the army who use him in their Akira project as a guinea pig giving him uncontrollable psychic powers.
