In post-war Japan, the young Shinko is happily growing up with her friends, surrounded by the wonderful landscape of the Japanese countryside. The arrival of a new student from Tokyo will allow Shinko to experience a host of new adventures.

    Sunao Katabuchi majored in animation at Nihon University College of Arts and began working as a scriptwriter on Miyazaki's films while still a student after meeting him during a guest lecture at the university. He served as assistant director on "Kiki's Delivery Service", and made his directorial debut with the TV series "Famous Dog Lassie". Further credits include "Princess Arete", Black Lagoon"(2006) and the widely acclaimed "Mai Mai Miracle" (2009).
