Annecy 2015 is paying tribute to all the women who have helped to change attitudes and promote female expression in the world of animation. This programme highlights the work of Janet Perlman, who has been a forerunner in humorous cartoons since 1976.

Since her first film, Lady Fishbourne’s Guide to Better Table Manners, made when she was just 22 years old, Janet Perlman has successfully been specialising in humorous cartoons. The Tender Tale of Cinderella Penguin, her re-envisioning of the famous fairy tale, even earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film.

Working both at the National Film Board of Canada (Dinner for Two, Bully Dance, Monsieur Pug…), and the private sector (she co-founded the Hulascope studio with composer Judith Gruber-Stitzer), she also created animated segments for the TV show Sesame Street, worked on R.O. Blechman's adaptation of The Soldier’s Tale, made a number of independent shorts (My Favorite Things that I Love, Sorry Film Not Ready) as well as Hot Seat for the American studio Acme Filmworks.

This programme introduces you to her sophisticated yet absurd sense of humour that has rewarded her with a place all her own in the animation world.
