As part of their mission to promote and broadcast animation films, the AFCA is presenting their carte blanche with three short films.

The Thieving Magpie is a programme that brings together three shorts, all film adaptations of operas by the famous Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini:

  • The Italian Girl in Algiers (1968): Lindoro and his fiancée Isabella leave from Venice by boat but are cast away on the shores of Algiers, where they are kept as prisoners by the pasha Moustafa who’s searching for a new wife…
  • Punchinella (1973): A little devil lives in a hut at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Polichinelle, a lazy liar who’s running from his wife and the authorities, finds refuge on the roof where he dreams of triumph and glory…
  • The Thieving Magpie (1964): Three kings lead a troop of a thousand soldiers towards the war against the birds. But the magpie gives them a hard time.

Take a trip into the extraordinary world of animation with this feast for both the eyes… and ears!
