The jury members will have the delicate task of choosing among the competing films and bestowing 18 official awards, including the Cristal for short films and the Cristal for feature films.

    Tiphaine de Raguenel

    Biography

    After graduating from the IEP in Paris, Tiphaine de Raguenel started out as Key Account Manager then Key Account Executive at Carat/Aegis Media.

    She joined Lagardère Active in 2006 as Marketing Research Manager for TiJi, CANAL J, Filles TV and Gulli, then became Marketing and New Media Manager.
    She started working for France Télévisions in 2012, as Children and Youth Activities Manager, before taking over the management as Head of Programmes at France 4 in 2013.
    She was appointed Executive Director of France 4 in 2015.

     
  • Bruno Coulais
    Bruno Coulais

    Biography

    In 1978, Bruno Coulais was a young symphonist who got drawn into the world of film music thanks to François Reichenbach.

    The general public discovered the force of his compositions with hit TV series, then he became a man in high demand after receiving critical acclaim for the peculiar lyricism he contributed to the documentary Microcosmos.

    Whether he's working on a French blockbuster (Vidocq, The Crimson Rivers) or an independent animation (with Henry Selick or Tomm Moore), the triple César winning composer knows how to harmonise with a filmmaker while preserving his musical integrity.

     
  • Smith
    Sarah Smith

    Biography

    Before moving into animation, Sarah Smith was a Director, Writer and Producer with a critically acclaimed career in British television comedy.
    In 2006, Sarah was recruited by Aardman Animations to build a new slate of projects. She managed to accomplish this in 9 months, earning the company a 3 year studio deal with Sony Pictures.
    She went on to make her animation debut as Director and Co-Writer of the award-winning 3D feature Arthur Christmas.
    In 2014, Sarah co-founded Locksmith Animation, the UK’s first dedicated high-end CG feature animation studio.

  • Chapman
    Brenda Chapman

    Biography

    Brenda Chapman started her career at Walt Disney Feature Animation where she worked on films such as the Oscar-nominated Beauty and the Beast. She was the story supervisor on The Lion King, for which she won the Annie Award.

    She then helped launch DreamWorks Animation Studios, where she directed The Prince of Egypt – the first woman to direct an animated feature for a major Hollywood studio. At Pixar Animation Studios she won an Oscar for Brave in 2013.

    Chapman has consulted on films for Disney, DreamWorks, Pixar, Universal, Sony and Lucasfilm. She co-owns Chapman Lima Productions with her husband Kevin Lima.

    Biography

    I was born and lived in Brest for 20 years before moving to Paris and watching all sorts of films there. Started writing about this and that (film, thrillers, Fort Boyard, pensions, etc). Landed at the magazine Première in 1992 in the editing department and left as Deputy Chief Editor on 31st December 1999. Started at L’Express on 1st January 2000 (a classy date) as Deputy Editor in the Arts and Entertainment department and became Chief Editor in 2006. Also Editor of Studio Ciné Live since September 2014. I love red shoes and potatoes, but don't like chocolate.

     
  • Shiota
    Shuzo John Shiota

    Biography

    Shuzo John Shiota graduated from Sophia University, majoring in International Legal Studies. After joining Nippon Steel Corporation in 1991, he changed industries to take part in the launch of Dream Pictures Studio in 1997. Two years later, he moved to Polygon and in 2003 took up the position of President and CEO, guiding the company's exponential growth. He has also juried on many major Japanese and international film festivals, including Prix Ars Electronica, SIGGRAPH, and Digicon6.

  • Babouche
    Cédric Babouche

    Biography

    After graduating from the Olivier de Serres and Émile Cohl schools, Cédric Babouche saw his short film Imago (2005) selected and rewarded in over 130 festivals. He was then art director on Rintaro's, Yona, Yona Penguin (2009). Teacher in the art of comic strips and animation at the Émile Cohl school, he is also director and artistic director at the production company Dandelooo. In 2014, he made the series Little Houdini for France Télévisions and published his first graphic novel Le Chant du cygne (Le Lombard).

     
  • Janelidze
    Nana Janelidze

    Biography

    Nana Janelidze co-wrote Tenguiz Abouladzé's film Repentance which won the Jury's Special Grand Prix at Cannes in 1987 and became a symbol of Perestroika.
    For this work and for films she directed, Lullaby (1994) and Will There Be a Theatre Up There?! (2011), Nana has received two Nika Awards (Russian Oscars), the Georgian State Prize and many other awards at international festivals (Pesaro, Tbilissi, Moscow, etc.).
    She was the Director of the Georgian National Film Center from 2013 until March of 2016.

     
  • Andrea Miloro

    Biography

    Andrea Miloro is Senior Vice President, Production at 20th Century Fox Animation where she oversees creative development and production of animated feature projects. Most recently, she's worked on Blue Sky Studios' Epic (2013) and The Peanuts Movie (2015).

    Prior to joining Fox, Andrea Miloro served as Vice President, Head of Production at Sony Pictures Animation. She has also been a VFX and Animation Producer on a variety of projects for 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., TriStar Pictures, Digital Domain and Rhythm & Hues.

    Jalal Maghout

    Biography

    Jalal Maghout graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Communication from Damascus University in 2010. He has produced and directed a variety of animated shorts that have been screened at festivals around the world, including his film Suleima, which was selected at festivals such as DOK-Leipzig, Stuttgart and Annecy.
    This independent filmmaker, who has been living in Berlin since 2013, also has experience in music videos, caricature, comics and painting.

     
  • Pelzer
    Wiktoria Pelzer

    Biography

    Programmer at the Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz, Wiktoria Pelzer co-curates the Animation Avantgarde programmes at Vienna Independent Shorts.
    She also works for the Gartenbaukino, Vienna's largest independent cinema, focusing on experimental and animated film, as well as music videos and young European cinema. She freelances as curator, organiser or moderator for other film events and is part of the selection jury as a member of sixpackfilm.

     
  • Cecilia Traslavina
    Cecilia Traslavina

    Biography

    Cecilia Translaviña is a professor in the Visual Arts Department at the Xavierian University in Bogota where she's also pursuing her Master's degree in Literature. Cecilia has already been a jury member at national and international animation festivals, such as Animateka 2014 in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Etiuda & Anima 2015 in Krakow (Poland) and others. In addition, she's just completed Perpetuum Mobile, a documentary that explores the relation between animation and art.

  • Marcel Jean

    Biography

    Marcel Jean, Artistic Director of the Annecy Festival since 2012, is also a producer, director, screenwriter, author and critic. Up until 2005, as head of the NFB’s French Animation Studio, he produced numerous films, which garnered over 150 awards, including a Golden Bear for the Best Short Film at the Berlin International Film Festival (Black Soul by Martine Chartrand), a Crystal Bear also at Berlin (Stormy Night by Michèle Lemieux), an Annecy Cristal (Tragic Story with Happy Ending by Regina Pessoa) and four Jutra Awards for Best Animated Film. Since 2015, he has been the Executive Director at the Cinémathèque québécoise.

     
  • Militon
    Olivier Militon

    Biography

    Musician and avid film buff, Olivier Militon has always cultivated a very visual approach to music, so he was naturally drawn to composing for images. In 2013, he wrote the music for the animated film 5,80 mètres by Nicolas Deveaux, which was selected in around a hundred festivals. He’s won several prizes, including the 2015 Berlinale Talents, Emergence Cinéma and Next Step (La Semaine de la Critique at Cannes). He continues his research and experiments with music for images and also teaches at the Annecy Music Conservatory.

  • Biography

    Member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Positif monthly since 2015, Bernard Génin also teachers Animation Film History at the ESRA, Paris (French academy specializing in audiovisual techniques). After working for Télérama as a film critic and reporter for the Cinema section from 1980 to 1997, he became head of the Cinema and Television departments from 1997 to 2004. Furthermore, he is the author of two books Le Cinéma d’animation (Cahiers du Cinéma publishers) and Émile Cohl, l’inventeur du dessin animé (Omniscience publishers).

     
  • Biography

    Bruno Hachero is a film scholar, teacher and critic based in Spain. He is a member of the Center of Aesthetic Research on Audiovisual Media at the Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona), where he is working on his PhD dissertation about the memory of horror in contemporary documentary films. He is also investigating animated documentaries, digital cinema and the aesthetics of contemporary film, among other topics.
    He holds an MA in Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies and a BA in Media Studies. He writes for the online film magazine Transit: Cine y otros desvíos, besides other scholarly film journals and publications.

     
  • Biography

    Hanna Margolis is a Polish film critic, art historian, festival programmer and curator, particularly interested in animation.
    She has been on the selection committee for the Anìmator Festival in Poznan (Poland) since 2011, and artistic supervisor of professional animated film at Studio Munka since 2013. She collaborates with Polish film institutions and writes for many film magazines and cultural and socio-political periodicals.
