Japan's oldest chronicle, Kojiki or "Record of Ancient Matters" was compiled in 712. It begins with the creation myth and the emergence of gods.

Born in Japan in 1964, Koji Yamamura graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 1987 and founded Yamamura Animation, Inc. in 1993. His 2002 short "Mt. Head" was nominated for an Oscar and scored 6 Grand Prix at festivals, including Annecy, Zagreb and Hiroshima. In 2007, his film "Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor" won the Grand Prix in Ottawa. He has also illustrated several children's books, is a sub-chairman for the Japan Animation Association and teaches at Tokyo University of the Arts.
