HIGHLIGHTS

Pos eso/Possessed

Spain, Guest Country

Throughout the first day of the Festival, you can enjoy a few Spanish gems.

You have opportunities all day long to catch events around Spanish animation and filmmakers. Start out with a Masterclass by Guillermo García Carsí, who will share some of his character design secrets.
Follow that up with the screening of the Spanish feature in competition Possessed, the hilarious story that puts a spin on horror films.
And also check out three Special Programmes: The Stamp of the Artist, Doodles and Under the Yoke

Femmes et animation, Florence Miailhe : Cristal d'honneur/ Women and Animation, Florence Miailhe: Honorary Cristal

Take a look at Florence Miailhe's work

On the Festival's opening day, dive head-first into this year's subject in the spotlight, Women and Animation. A great way to start out could be to go see the Special Programme Florence Miailhe: Honorary Cristal.

This artist has received several awards over the years for her films that demonstrate her unique style.
Her short Au premier dimanche d'août was in the Official Selection at Annecy in 2000, nominated for the Cartoon d'or in 2001 and received the César for Best Short Film in 2002. Her short Conte de quartier received a Special Mention from the jury at Cannes in 2006.
In 2015, she's back in Annecy to receive the Honorary Cristal for her impressive career and contributions. It will be given to her on Saturday 20th June during the Closing Ceremony.
The first chance to see this programme with several of her shorts is at 4:00 pm.
Until then, check out the making of an animation that she made based on the Festival poster created by Regina Pessoa. It's on today's playlist!

30 YEARS OF THE MIFA

Calimero fête les 30 ans du Mifa !

30 years celebrated by the biggest animation studios!

Through video clips with their main characters, some of our favourite animation studios decided to join the party for the Mifa's 30th.

The Mifa received plenty of sweet birthday/anniversary messages and you can watch them all online!

A big thanks to all the animation stars and their studios for these thoughtful contributions!

Mickaël MARIN, délégué développement économique et Mifa / Head of Economic Development and Mifa

30 years of the Mifa in figures

Head of Economic Development & Mifa, Mickaël Marin has evaluated the upcoming International Animation Film Market, which is looking very good (for 30).

Two days before the opening and its 30th anniversary, the Mifa team is happy to announce a 10% rise in accreditations (almost 2,400), a 10% increase in investors and buyers' participation (almost 350) and more exhibitors than ever (over 550), up 7%.

Mifa - 1985

Our biggest year yet!

We already know this year will be one to remember in Mifa history.

As said above, participation has risen in perfect correlation to the status of attending professionals. For example, several decision makers in the industry such as producers and investors will be present.
The programme is full of Meetings, highlights (Keynote speeches) and special events organised for the Mifa's 30th. Each year, more and more delegates are coming from key animation production lands like the USA, Canada and France, promoting new national and international collaborations.

Spain will be showing up and showing off at the Mifa

17 June (02:30 pm - 04:00 pm)

Spain, this year's Guest Country, will be here with a delegation of over 260 professionals.

As for the Mifa, the cherry on top of the tribute to Spain will be the Territory Focus on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.
In general, there are more sessions dedicated to Spain on the Festival side, with an entire Special Programme, while the Meetings are featuring a Masterclass and many other events dedicated to our southern neighbours.
This homage will salute a very rich filmography and an admirably dynamic industry.

Le Pâquier - Annecy 2013

Noteworthy geographic trends

There are plenty North American delegates this year with the US in the lead and new European countries (the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark) are making their first visit to the Mifa.

The presence of Latin American and Asian countries has been steadily rising over the years and even French participation is on the up and up.
Find the events programme on our website's section dedicated to the Mifa.

Exposition / Exhibition 'Keep an Eye Out'

An exhibition in the heart of the Mifa and Lake Annecy!

15 June (08:00 am - 11:59 pm)

You can come and visit the Mifa starting today and take the chance to discover Keep an Eye Out an exhibition that's winking at the lake's shore.

This temporary exhibition by Marc Limousin questions the relationship between humans and nature. Imitating mass surveillance in public places, a couple pairs of eyes on the lake are animated by wind, light and the water's ebb and flow.
