The year is 1936, and shoemakers in a Finnish industrial town are sending shoes to Spain as humanitarian aid. Young Arvo wants to do more, so he joins as a volunteer in the International Brigades and disappears.

    Finnish-born Katariina Lillqvist has been working in Prague since 1989. She has made 17 independent animations, numerous documentaries and radio features in co-production with the Finnish Broadcasting Company and other partners. Some of her films include "The Chamber Stork" (in competition at Annecy 1995), "The Country Doctor" (Silver Bear at Berlin 1996) and "Far Away from Ural" (in competition at Annecy 2008). She has become one of the leading puppet animators in Scandinavia.
