  Cinéma d’animation La French Touch

Arte Editions are celebrating animation with the book "Cinéma d’animation La French Touch" and a restored version of the René Laloux classic, "Fantastic Planet".

Fans of French animation are going to be delighted on May 11th with the publication of Laurent Valière’s book Cinéma d’animation La French Touch.

Laurent Valière is an animation expert and cultural journalist with France Info. His career includes presenting the weekly magazine show Tous les Mickey du monde on France Inter as well as the daily chronicle Cartoon Story; he has also produced several documentaries about animation for France Culture. His expertise in the field naturally led him to the Annecy Festival, where he moderated the immensely popular Work in Progress sessions.

With this highly illustrated reference book, Laurent Valière pays a vibrant tribute to French animation. Published by Éditions de la Martinière and Arte Éditions, with support from the Gan Foundation for Cinema, Cinéma d’animation La French Touch takes the reader to the heart of the history and behind the scenes of French animation. A leading country in European animation, France has distinguished itself internationally with such productions as Arthur and the Invisibles, Kirikou, Persepolis, and more recently My Life as a Courgette, as well as attracting foreign productions to its talented pool of animators. A first of its kind, Cinéma d’animation La French Touch is sure to cause an animated stir.

The Festival is organising an eponymous exhibition for the publication of the book, which you’ll be able to discover from 12th to 17th June on the Pâquier.

Arte Editions is also releasing a DVD and Blu-ray of a restored version of Fantastic Planet. René Laloux made this animation classic with its futuristic graphic style in 1973 and the film went on to win the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. An exhibition devoted to the filmmaker entitled Animation by René Laloux presents original material from his films and can be visited at the Château d’Annecy, musée lacs et montagnes up until July 2nd 2017. A great way for Annecy locals and festivalgoers to take a trip into this animation legend’s universe.
