  Masterclass with Robert Valley

Come and hear from Canada’s animation prodigy and faithful Gorillaz collaborator, Robert Valley.

The Festival invites you to come and hear from a prominent figure on the international animation scene with Robert Valley’s Masterclass on Monday 12th June at 4:30 pm.

A director, graphic artist, designer and animator, Robert Valley has made a name for himself in several areas of the visual arts with ridiculous ease. Most well-known for his work with Gorillaz, for whom he’s directed several music videos, he’s also the mastermind behind the Massive Swerve graphic novel series and the Oscar-nominated short Pear Cider and Cigarettes. The artist also stands out with his long list of ad work, most notably for the very controversial spot he did for Virgin cola, designed by his accomplice Jamie Hewlett, the bass player and co-creator of the virtual group Gorillaz.

Robert will give advice about adapting graphic novels into animation by presenting examples from his short Pear Cider and Cigarettes and the Gorillaz music video that he made in collaboration with Jamie Hewlett. This will be a chance for the audience to learn about his sources of inspiration and better understand his artistic evolution.
