Captation Leçon de cinéma : L’art de raconter, de la BD à l’animé

18th Jul 2017

The art of storytelling, from comics to anime

Lewis Trondheim, Guy Delisle and Arthur de Pins led a Masterclass at the Annecy Festival on the ties between comics and animation.

We’re offering you an integral viewing of this Leçon de cinema held during the 2017 Annecy Festival, part of the Meetings events. The theme of this masterclass was "The Art of Storytelling, from Comics to Animation".

Three comic book artist-authors, all of whom had pursued animation at one point in their careers, discussed the ties which link these two graphic arts. What processes can be used to tell a story that targets both readers and viewers, what differences exist between these two vehicles, often subject to confusion among the public at large… Our panel of artists addressed these and many other questions.

Explore the video recording of these exchanges between Lewis Trondheim, comic book author and publisher who tried his hand at animation; Guy Delisle, who after studying animation, began working on comics; and Arthur de Pins, illustrator and author, who has just adapted his Zombillénium comic book into an animated feature film.

This Masterclass – moderated by Eric Libiot senior art and entertainment editor at L’Express – was shot and edited by Canopé.
