An honorary doctorate degree for Marcel Jean!

Marcel Jean, the artistic director of the Annecy Festival, will receive an honorary doctorate degree from the president of Université Savoie Mont Blanc at the 42nd Festival.

On Saturday 16th June, to mark the end of the Festival, Denis Varaschin, the president of Université Savoie Mont Blanc, will give an honorary doctorate degree to Marcel Jean, the executive director of the Cinémathèque québécoise and artistic director of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, in the presence of Jean-Luc Rigaut, mayor of the New Annecy Township and Dominique Puthod, deputy mayor of the Annecy Township and chairman of CITIA. The ceremony will take place at 10:00 am in the Great Hall at Annecy Town Hall.

About Marcel Jean
This degree will be awarded to him as a way of paying tribute to his career and unyielding commitment to cinema and animation in particular.

It should be remembered that he started his career as a producer, director and scriptwriter at the end of the 1980s with Le Rendez-vous perpétuel (1989). He was the co-author of Dictionnaire du cinéma québécois (1988), the author of Le Dictionnaire des films québécois (2014) and several books on animated films, as well as critic for the magazine 24 images.

This man of many talents has overseen the animation studio of the National Film Board of Canada’s French programme, been director of the documentary programme at the Institut national de l'image et du son, taught criticism, film history and aesthetics at the Université de Montréal, and served as vice-president of the publishing house Les 400 coups and Québec Cinéma.

Over 150 international prizes have been awarded to the films that he has produced, and individually Marcel Jean has won the AQEC-Olivieri Award twice and was the seventh recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Animation Studies that was presented in Zagreb, Croatia.

With such a record, the honorary title that has been awarded is truly a fitting tribute to his career and commitment to animated. We would like to offer our congratulations!
