Second Annual ANIMATION IS FILM Festival

The second annual edition of ANIMATION IS FILM, festival dedicated to animation, launches in Los Angeles, Oct 19-21, 2018.

The ANIMATION IS FILM festival, which launched in 2017, is being produced by GKIDS, in partnership with Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Variety. It is aimed at putting animation films in the spotlight and its second edition will take place at the TCL Chinese 6 Theaters, Hollywood, from Friday 19th to Sunday 21nd October 2018.

During these three days, more than 30 animation films from around the world will be screened, including premieres, remastered movies (THE PRINCE OF EGYPT) and exclusive footage from films still in production (RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET, SPIDERMAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE). At the end of the event, two prizes will be awarded – The Jury Prize (Competition films only) and the Audience Award.

Mamoru Hosoda's last feature MIRAI will open the festival with Hosoda in attendance.

  • TITO AND THE BIRDS, Gabriel Bitar, André Catoto, Gustavo Steinberg

The following jury members have been unveiled: Peter Debruge (Chief film critic, Variety, jury chairman), Allison Abbate (EVP, Warner Animation Group), Kobe Bryant (Oscar winner and NBA superstar), Melissa Cobb (VP, Kids and Family, Netflix), Dean DeBlois (Filmmaker, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON(s) 1-3), Carolyn Giardina (Editor, Hollywood Reporter), Jorge Gutierrez (Filmmaker, THE BOOK OF LIFE), Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Filmmaker, KUNG FU PANDA(s) 2 & 3), Henry Selick (Filmmaker, NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, CORALINE), Charles Solomon (Critic/Historian), Mabel Tam (VP and Head Film Buyer, Landmark Theatres) and Anne Thompson (Critic, IndieWire).
