The animation feature has to deal with the difficult equation of proposing original visual and narrative universes but without either the economic power of the American studios or the cheap labour force of emerging territories. The feature films presented offer different answers to this challenge at an editorial, organisational and technical level, as well as many examples to think about.

Oggy and the Cockroaches, the Movie

Olivier Jean-Marie will present his feature Oggy and the Cockroaches, the Movie through some inherent questions during the creation of the film:

  • How can you produce a high quality animation film in less than 18 months?
  • What solutions were created to overcome the difficulties encountered in bringing to the big screen a slapstick story in a long format without dialogue?
  • What role do the soundtrack and music play in the film?

Cafard

This conference will focus on making an animated auteur film for an adult public and talk about the artistic, technical and economic choices made to reach this objective.

Khumba – a zebra’s journey from zero to hero

Writer/Director Anthony Silverston and co-writer Raffaella Delle Donne will cover the process of visual and narrative development. Producer Mike Buckland will look at how the Triggerfish team brought the magical Karoo and its animals to life covering the challenges of creating furry animals in an epic, richly detailed landscape – on budget!
