En février 1917, le tsar est renversé. En octobre, les bolcheviks gouvernent eux-mêmes. Que faisaient les poètes, les penseurs et les avant-gardistes comme Maxime Gorki et Kasimir Malevitch durant cette réforme radicale du pouvoir ? Cinq artistes sortent de la pile de livres du réalisateur comme des personnages découpés animés et participent à des salons, à des comités et à des émeutes dans la rue.
