Annecy:
Know-How and Expertise Serving Animation

Following on from South Africa and China, the Mifa is continuing its international deployment of initiatives to detect, support and spotlight the creativity and potential of authors from emerging countries in animation. Through Animation du Monde, the Mifa is now offering its expertise to projects from Argentina and Thailand.

Bangkok

The Mifa is also teaming up with the World Film Festival of Bangkok for the French/Thai animation appointments. Following the death of Thailand’s king Bhumibol Adulyadej, the World Film Festival of Bangkok has been postponed until the 20th to 29th January 2017.

For the first time, the French Embassy in Thailand is working with the Annecy Festival and Market to organise a development programme for animation projects.

A Call for Projects for animated short films was launched all over Thailand allowing up to 5 creatives to take part in a 5-day workshop, from 23rd to 27th January 2017, at the World Film Festival of Bangkok.

The workshop will be based around three themes: writing, cutting and production and the public presentation of a project. The workshop will be hosted by:

Géraldine Baché (Head of Projects, Mifa), coordinator of Animation du Monde
Pierre-Luc Granjon, director of animated films such as La Grosse Bête (Les Décadrés Production 2013), Poppety in the Fall (Folimage 2012, TV Special Award Annecy 2013), A Little Adventure (Folimage 2001), along with the animated feature currently in development  The Army of Rabbits, (Foliascope)
Corinne Destombes, Editorial Director at Folimage.

After this workshop, guidance will continue by mentoring for a period of 3 months. At the beginning of April, a session of pitches will take place to find an all-out winner, who will then be invited to take part in the Animation du Monde Pitch session at the Mifa in June 2017.

The desire to support territories where the production capacity for animation film projects is limited is one of our major concerns. Visiting these territories in person, exploring and pooling our expertise and skills in animation: these are the missions that the Annecy Festival and Market have set themselves.
We have a desire to develop this type of cooperation to create a real support programme for the works and the creatives behind them. This can be before or after the Mifa, as we are doing with Annecy Goes to Cannes, working in collaboration with the Cannes Film Market.
