Each year, the Mifa Pitches aim to showcase the best original animation film projects in development. Initially in 4 categories — Feature Films, Short Films, TV Series & Specials and Digital Experiences — the Pitches are becoming more elaborate every year.
After the launch of the Animation du Monde Pitches in 2015, 2020 will see the launch of the Comics Pitches.
These Pitch sessions are a privileged time to discover the universes and sensitivities in their own right, which reflect young international creativity.
The Mifa Pitches, whether they are Feature Films, Short Films, TV Series & Specials or Digital Experiences, are designed to reveal the best original animation film projects in development.
The Pitches are open internationally and enable those selected to present their projects to a professional and enthusiastic audience, who are supported by the many partners who contribute prizes.
Launched in 2020, the Comics Mifa Pitches are now integrated into the Mifa Pitches on a permanent basis, designed to cross-over the arts and initiate possible adaptations between the comic strip and the screen. The stage is handed over to writers after a selection led by an expert committee and thanks to the collaboration of several international comic book festivals.
The Animation du Monde Pitches were launched in 2015 to showcase young writers and their projects from territories where animation is just emerging. Now a label in its own right, the writers, animators or directors can submit their projects themselves or attend a scheme set-up on their territory with the Mifa teams. Find these little gems in each of the Mifa Pitch formats.
For each Pitch session organised during the Mifa loyal partners choose the projects that they would like to help and support in the continuation of their development. They provide the means to attain their goals thanks to these prizes, which manifest in the form of grants, residences, producer support, etc.
The Selection Committees are established each year to choose the projects that will be pitched during the Mifa sessions. For each of the categories, European experts from the animation sector discuss the many projects submitted and determine which ones will be presented at Annecy.
Launched in 2019, the Training Workshops aim to prepare writers and/or producers for their participation in the Pitches and at the Mifa. These sessions are led by animation professionals that train the participants how to pitch, as well as to identify and target their potential partners at the Mifa. In the current health context, the Training Workshop 2021 will be limited to remote professional assistance before the event.
The Mifa willingly follows up on the evolution of the animation projects presented during the Pitch sessions and also asks the writers for feedback a few months later concerning the development of the projects presented.
A few years after their Pitch sessions, the Mifa continues to follow the winning projects’ evolution and asks the project writers, whose production is completed, to unveil their journey since being at Annecy (festival selections, broadcasts, awards, etc.).
