Feature Animation with Jason Ryan, 2nd session

  1. Overview
  2. Description

Second session: Blocking Plus to Final Polish

Jason Ryan has been working in the industry for over 18 years. After a stint at Walt Disney Animation Studios he is now a Supervising Animator at DreamWorks Animation in Glendale, California.
The aim of these workshops is to allow both professionals and students to observe Jason's approach to animation.

Originally a 2D animator, he uses the speed of drawing in DigiCel Flipbook to create a blueprint for his shots, which helps solve his character's posing, spacing, and timing.
Once the blueprint is working Jason uses it as a reference layer inside Maya, to help create the CG character's performance.
This process saves him endless hours of struggling with rigs and has made him one of the fastest animators in the industry today.

2) Blocking Plus to Final Polish

The second session will be about fleshing out the shot, pushing the CG character's poses, breaking it down and getting to that final feature-level polish.
