Summary

Over 7,000 visitors were present to take part in the success of this year’s event.

International Animation Film Festival (9th-14th June 2014)

In 2014, 7,100 badge holders came along to screenings of over 500 films from 73 countries. Stop-motion was in the spotlight with a number of special programmes, conferences and exhibitions.

Sneak previews such as How to Train Your Dragon 2, Saint Seiya Legend of Sanctuary, The Tale of Princess Kaguya and Feast delighted the public, as well as the open-air screenings on the Pâquier lawn in front of over 6,000 spectators each evening, often introduced by well-known filmmakers including Carlos Saldanha, Chris Butler and Dean DeBlois.

New for 2014, making some of the programmes available online on MyHomeFestival was a very successful move that attracted many animation fans, along with a new competition category, "Animation Off-Limits" that showed off short films exploring innovation and experimentation.

One of the biggest highlights of the week will remain the Honorary Award given to Japanese animation master Isao Takahata, who was visiting Annecy to present his last film, The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

International Animation Film Market (10th-13th June 2014)

With 2,450 accredited delegates, 1,225 companies, 61 countries represented and 334 buyers, distributors and investors, Mifa 2014 was a great success, showing a 13 % increase in the number of exhibiting companies and first visits from a number of South American countries.

Although the Mifa has slowly been developing from a co-production market to a place for buying and selling programmes, other events put in place over the years like the Share With and Mifa Pitch sessions or the press conferences with French broadcasters are attracting an ever-growing public. The American majors including Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney and Pixar were also significantly present this year.

A year after the Mifa Pitch sessions, here's news about the development of some of the projects presented in 2013.

Mifa will be 30 in 2015, presenting the ideal opportunity to celebrate the animation industry in France and all over the world.

Conferences (10th to 13th June 2014)

The conference programme has recently been repackaged to respond more effectively to its public of industry professionals, teachers ad students. It is now made up of three categories, Creation, Production Organisation and Business, providing analysis and reflection on all the processes of filmmaking, from creation to distribution as well as thoughts and ideas for the future of the industry.
37 international speakers from well-known companies such as Aardman Animations, studio LAIKA, Google or Disney accepted the invitation to talk during this year's series of 14 conferences.

Films and filmmakers (9th to 14th June 2014)

Work in Progress, Making of, Shorts & Breakfast, Feature Films in Competition Press Conferences, Master Classes, Signing Sessions... Just a few of the events on the programme giving visitors to Annecy the possibility to get an idea of what goes on behind the scenes of animation filmmaking and get up close to attending guests from the industry including Isao Takahata, Carlos Saldanha, Alexandre Astier and many others.
