• Editorial strategy: Serving up brilliant content to the UK’s children is one of the core purposes of the BBC. We are a multi-genre department, commissioning and acquiring bold and ambitious content for our portfolio of branded platforms. We want every child to be able to see their lives reflected back at them and we are proud of our role in offering opportunities to new talent both on and off screen. We aim to model good behaviours, show kindness and active citizenship, be aspirational and informative – and we believe kids have a right to be carefree and laugh their socks off too.

• Looking for: Our current priorities for animation for a 7-12-year-old target audience are:
  • Fast-paced, character-driven comedy – 11 minutes and strongly authored, staple viewing for 7-9s particularly
  • Sharply written family sitcom – 22 minutes
  • Animation with a more complex narrative style – and a story-arc, possibly with anime styling, but suitable for younger viewers!
