Transmedia writing

  1. Overview

Transmedia likes to define itself as a radically new form of storytelling. The writing process is radically transformed, particularly due to the aspect of interactivity, and the fact that the “spectators” take an active role in the course of the narrative also contributes to the content and development of the work that changes the status of its target audience.

In turn, the author of the piece must, of course, be able to control the effects induced by these new and constantly changing technologies.

However, an even more decisive change also comes into play, where the author has to become a sort of showrunner creating a universe both large enough to accommodate external interests and coherent enough to assert an identity across the different platforms.

With barely ten years of existence, it is probably too early to draw any clear-cut conclusions about transmedia, but the subject nevertheless demands closer observation into its development.
