Experience the Mexican metropolis by diving into the heart of Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City, where tradition and modernity collide.

In a tribute to Mexico, José Iñesta has teamed up with seven renowned Mexican animation professionals: Sofía Carrillo, Ana Cruz, Lucía Cavalchini, Tania de León Young, Lourdes Villagómez, Christian Bermejo and Jordi Iñesta. Together, they have carefully concocted nine programmes comprising 88 short films, offering Annecy festivalgoers an enthralling plunge into the richness of this multifaceted culture.

In Mexico, most of the population is concentrated in three major cities: Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City. These are a blend of multicultural backgrounds where old and new generations coexist. Human stories are set in an urban and suburban canvas that represent ground zero and the heartbeat of the metropolitan areas. Through a variety of mediums, the films in this program capture the essence of life in the Mexican cities. From the bustling Central de Abasto market to the historic Estudios Churubusco lab, some films offer a particular view into the core of the dynamic and multifaceted Mexico city, one of the largest cities in the world.

We see these places through the eyes of their inhabitants, and the solitary man navigating the crowded metro and discovering a young woman on the brink of suicide. The films also show a glimpse into the beauty and complexity of Mexican urban areas, capturing its essence through its colorful and chaotic streets that pulsate with music and dance. Viewers are also transported to the Bosque de Chapultepec, a place where families come together on Sundays. These films capture the dynamic energy of Mexico's largest cities.
